My 'W' title for the Alphabet challenge.

I got this from the Project Gutenberg website. I rather enjoyed the story.

We begin at Charing Cross station where the young widow Lilia Herrington is about to embark on a journey with Caroline Abbott. Lilias in-laws are relieved as they think Caroline might help to refine the girl.

When the two travellers get to Monteriano in Italy, they decide to remain longer than planned. During this extended visit, Lilia falls in love with a handsom younger man. When her in-laws hear of her intention, her brother in-law Phillip is sent to Italy to stop such nonsense.

Phillip arrives too late and Lilia has married Gino.

Of course middle class England and semi-rural Italy do not mix all that well and the plot thickens....
