Now Tine left me a message on my Saturday blog saying that she has never had shepherds pie, I am shocked and frankly that’s just not on so please for tine, this is my recipe.
Take one shepherd – wash him thoroughly – just kidding………..
Heat your oven and peel the potatoes (no DO NOT use instant mash).
Boil potatoes for mashing
Chop onion and fry in a little oil and if you like them soft some water to stop them burning
Remove onion from the pan and fry the mince until browned
Cook peas and carrots
Add some herbs and stock to the meat and stir in the onions
Add the peas and carrots to the meat mixture and combine.
Mash potatoes with some butter and milk and a little salt to taste
Now get your oven dish out and put the meat mixture in the bottom.
Cover with mash and flatten it out, you can use a fork so you don’t burn your hands :P LOL
You can glaze the top with either a beaten egg, some butter or cheese all work well but not too much cheese. Egg makes it nice and crisp so that’s a good option
Place in the oven until browned on top then serve but beware this is going to be piping hot!!
